Plan the room before choosing equipment
A successful commercial gym begins with the people, space and operating plan—not a list of machines. Document who will use the facility, expected peak occupancy, training goals, supervision and accessibility needs before comparing equipment.
Measure the complete space
Record clear room dimensions, ceiling height, columns, doors, glazing, mechanical equipment and every fixed obstruction. Mark power, data, ventilation and emergency exits. Photographs and an architectural floor plan help a specialist identify constraints early.

- Usable length, width and ceiling height
- Door, corridor, stair and elevator dimensions
- Power outlets, data connections and HVAC locations
- Floor construction and permitted loading
- Accessibility routes and required clearances
- Delivery access, loading area and parking restrictions
Organize the facility into training zones
Separate cardio, selectorized strength, free weights, functional training, stretching and storage according to the users and supervision model. Allow clear circulation between zones and around equipment. Free-weight areas need space for lifting, spotting and safe movement—not only the footprint shown on a specification sheet.
Plan utilities and flooring together
Confirm electrical and network requirements for powered or connected equipment before walls and floors are finished. Flooring should be selected for the activities above it, the substrate below it, acoustics, cleaning and long-term replacement.
Prepare for delivery and installation
The route from the truck to the final position is part of the design. Check dock access, door widths, turning radii, elevator capacity, finished surfaces and construction schedules. Identify building rules and site contacts before delivery is booked.
Build a useful project brief
